LEARN TO DIVE | Open Water Course
Manta Lodge and Scuba Centre located on beautiful North Stradbroke Island is the ideal setting to learn to scuba dive; predominately due to the pristine diving conditions found at the island. This combined with the high level of diver training delivered by Manta’s group of passionate instructors as well as the island’s close proximity to Brisbane!
Why become a PADI Open Water Diver?
Becoming a certified diver is beginning of a whole NEW adventure! Manta Lodge and Scuba Centre’s instructors equip you with the necessary skills to lead your own dive! After completing your diver training at Manta Lodge and Scuba Centre you are qualified to dive ANYWHERE in the world, within the limits of your training!

The theory part of the course consists of 5 chapters and is now completed through:
Online through PADI E-Learning
Offline through PADI Touch
These need to be completed PRIOR to commencing your course!
The day will start off with completing relevant paperwork and a short knowledge review.
You will then be introduced to the scuba diving gear and off to a swimming pool to practice and complete 5 confined water pool sessions, incorporating equipment care/selection.
All your practice and preparation is now put into practice with two boat dives departing from Home Beach, North Stradbroke island. This day includes underwater exploration and practicing skills to gain diving experience!
The final day incorporates one more trip out on our vessels Rigid One or Rigid Too, for two boat dives incorporating more exploration, skills and fun underwater! Upon returning there of a small amount of paperwork to complete, and before you know it you are then a certified PADI Open Water Diver!!
Previous swimming experience is necessary if you are interested in commencing a scuba diving course. During the course you will have to be able to:
- Swim 200m unassisted or Snorkel 300m
- Stay afloat for 10 minutes
- Minimum age 12 years (12-14 year olds receive a Junior Open Water Certification)
- Be medically fit to scuba dive
Scuba diving is an exciting and demanding activity. The purpose of the following questions is to find out if you need to be examined by a doctor before you participate in recreational scuba diving. A positive response to a question does not necessarily disqualify you from diving.
